Created in 1936, until the 1950s it was one of the best open-air swimming pools in Europe. In 1936 it hosted a swimming match with Americans and in 1947 a Polish swimming and water polo championship. In the 1950s it repeatedly hosted the Martini Cup international swimming competition. The pool also hosted diving competitions. At the beginning of the 1950s an untypical boxing gala was organised, with participants fighting on a ring placed on a platform in the middle of the pool. In 1955 the pool was used as a set for shooting three short films entitled "Trzy starty" directed by Ewa Petelska, featuring among others Bogumił Kobiela and Leon Niemczyk. Ten years later the pool appeared in another film — "Jutro Meksyk" directed by Aleksander Ścibor-Rylski, with Zbigniew Cybulski in the leading role.
